Back At It, For the Last Time!

Filed under: Tidbits — Lindsay @ 8:15 pm

First day of full classes today and what can I say?  Other than the excitement that comes with my last year of university, I’m overall not thrilled to be back at school.  Summer seemed to drag on at the start and then flew by without any notice.  But dwelling on what’s over is not going to make my final transition back to school any easier.

Despite the natural depression associated with the end of the summer, I am surprisingly exciting about most of my classes.  Perhaps the pressure-relieving fact that I have a job after graduation makes the importance of my grades seem obsolete.  It’s hard to believe that this is my last September 5th in University.  The end is finally in sight and, to be honest, I thought it would never come.

So last year resolution….work smarter and play harder.  Although I don’t deprive myself completely from un-school related activities, I have in the past lead a fairly sheltered life in Saskatoon.  But no longer!  Not that you’ll see me out every night, partying it up, but I’m going to make a strong effort to attend a few more law related events and spend a little more time with my fellow students.  Ironically, last year and the year before, I felt surrounded by mindless twits that I was forced to get to know.  Now, those same mindless twits are still mindless but none-the-less my fellow students and it would be a shame to go through law school, only knowing my small circle of friends.  So here is my word….hold me to it!

TMNT - Not Quite As I Remembered It

Filed under: Books, Films and the Like — Lindsay @ 8:04 pm

When I heard the movie of the night was the new TMNT (and if you don’t know what that acronym is, then you should be ashamed!), I was pumped.  I remembered the turtles as fun, tough and more than exciting to watch.  The new movie, is to say the least, not quite as impressive.  All things seem that way though.  I remember the great classics from my childhood, one being TMNT, others including Rainbow Bright, Carebears and Power Rangers, to be unbeatable in terms of action and excitement.  Same with Dr. Giggles.  I used to think that movie was the scariest thing on the planet, and now, it’s painful to sit through.  In any case, my ramblings are merely to illustrate that things are never quite as good as you remember them.

But TMNT?  I was sure it would live up to it’s previous glorious memory.  However, I am sad to say that it didn’t.  Not only was the story line boring and lacking nail-bitting excitement, the turtles didn’t contain the same emotions and spirit that I remembered.  Since when does the bad guy go down so easy?  Where are the twists and turns and bad-guy-coming-back-from-the-dead?  Not here.  None-the-less, I would still recommend it to any old school TMNT fan, but be fore-warned, it just doesn’t live up the 80’s originals.

MY RATING:  7 out of 10
